Target: Children in the senior class, 19 children

For the workshop "Rakuyai 2 Firing" we set up a mobile kiln under the eaves in the schoolyard and fired the pieces created during the workshop "Forming by hand."Like the last time, we arrived at the venue 2.5 hours before the starting time and started preparation in the rain. It had started raining the night before.

It kept raining after starting the workshop. However, the rain had stopped by the time the children went to see the kiln set up in the schoolyard after making a print of their hands for handprint ceramic plaques in commemoration of their graduation. The plaques were made during the workshop "Keepsake plaque" which was held at the same time. We had fine weather with clearing skies until the end of the workshop.

We could see little change in the kiln while the pieces were being fired. We popped some popcorn using the heat from the chimney of the kiln so that the children could visually understand that the works were being fired at a high temperature inside the kiln. We hope they will remember the workshop and the taste of the popcorn.

When we removed the pottery works from the kiln, the children were surprised to see their works change color at the moment they were immersed in water. The children looked at the changes seriously and compared each other's finished work. The workshop was successful, and no one got bored during the four-hour workshop including the lunch break.

The questionnaire completed after the workshop showed that many of the children were anxiously waiting for the completion of their pieces and wanted to create more.
