宮城県仙台市「卸町光の子保育園」で、2度目の楽焼ワークショップです。
昨年度に参加したこどもたちの弟や妹がいたり、年中児としてワークショップに交ざっていた子がいたりと、ポッターさん、ポタ子さんと会うのをとても楽しみにしてくれていたようです。当日は、シーズン最強の寒波が到来した影響で大雪となりましたが、会場内は大雪を溶かしてしまいそうなほどの熱気に包まれました。
今年度のこどもたちは、昨年度と比べて1つ1つの作品をじっくりと細部まで作り込む傾向が見られ、密度の高い作品が数多く誕生しました。また、ポッターさんから2種類の色の粘土を用意してくれたので、使用する部位によって粘土を使い分けるなど、様々な創意工夫も見受けられました。
ワークショップを終えたこどもたちからは、早く作ったものを焼いてみたいという声があがっていました。
楽焼とは
手とヘラだけを用いて「手捻り」と呼ばれる手法で成形を行ない、850度前後の比較的低温で焼成することを特徴とする軟質施釉陶器。
Rakuyaki Forming

Rakuyaki is a soft-type glazed ceramic ware that is characterized by being formed only by hand and a pallet (called "tebineri") and then calcined at low firing temperatures around 850 degrees.
The second edition of this workshop was held in answer to a request from the Oroshimachi Nursery School, Fifteen of the elder children of the Nursery School took part in the event. The younger brothers and sisters of those who had taken last year’s workshop as well as those children who had already taken part themselves were looking forward to meeting Potter-san and Potako-san. On the day the event was held, the strongest cold front of the season reached us just in time to cover everything in a white coat, but the venue got so heated with enthusiasm that it might have just about been able to melt the white snow.
The children who participated this year, compared to those of last year, tended to show greater care with details. This resulted in a great number of thoroughly worked outcomes. They also listened to Potter-san’s explanation about the two differently colored clay types he had prepared and immediately gave us a taste of their ingenuity. The children who were done with their preparations told us they could not wait to put their creation in the oven.
