3回目の「D.I.Y. KIT PROGRAM」のワークショップはD.I.Y.キット「bento」の組み立てと、村山市の手づくりパンNOUKA によるりんごジャム作りやコーヒー焙煎体験を、ご家族で楽しめる内容となりました。
キット制作では限られた時間にも関わらず、1 つだけではなく2 つの家具を制作する子も多く、オリジナルの家具もいくつか生まれました。子ども達が制作に夢中になり、最後まで集中して取り組む姿には物事を成し遂げようとする逞しさ、活き活きとした力強さを感じました。
このキットの大きなテーマでもある「DIY＝Do it yourself」とはどのようなことか、何をすることか、子どもたちにはまだ少し難しいかもしれません。しかし、何をどう組み立てるかを考えながら、力いっぱいドライバーを握り、ビスや釘を木にねじ込んだ体験は、いつか「自分で考え、行動すること」や「ものづくり」、「自分たちの暮らし方」について改めて考える時、きっと良いヒントを与えてくれるのではないかと思います。

This workshop consisted of putting together the “bento” DIY kit and taking part in a jam-making and coffee-brewing experience under the guidance of a handmade bread bakery NOUKA at the Yamagata Institute of Art in Tohoku University of Art And Design. All members of participating families could enjoy the workshop.
Although the time to put together the kits was limited, many children built up to two pieces of furniture and created original works. The children were completely engrossed in the assembly of their kits. The concentration they demonstrated communicated a certain courage to carry things through to the very end in addition to great vigor.
The big keyword for this kit is DIY, or “Do It Yourself.” It might still be a little difficult for children to understand what it is and what sort of activities it involves. Nevertheless, we are sure that the complete experience—including thinking about how to put which items together and driving in nails and screws into the wooden materials with a firmly grasped screwdriver—will deliver valuable hints for children to consider central aspects of their lives, such as thinking and acting independently, making things and considering their way of living.
